And as they play, my sympathetic grieving for the Jews stirs thoughts of him I loved and was to lose. The music says what I was loth to say, I, so reluctant to be touched at first, preferring safety in my careful shell, now find a soothing in a grief expressed at one remove, as stroked by feathers, till this glancing echo of the Holocaust, embedded, eases me, makes me more well.

As someone who also entered this competition I liked this on the first reading which is unusual. As an aside, I dont think there is such a thing as good or bad poetry but some is more penetratable than others. This is good
